El Dr. Alejandro Herreros Pomares participa en uno de los proyectos galardonados en los Premios Promoción de la Investigación 2025 de la Fundación de Investigación del Hospital General de Valencia, una convocatoria destinada a impulsar la investigación biomédica y clínica desarrollada por profesionales del departamento Valencia-Hospital General.
El acto de entrega de los premios tuvo lugar el 10 de marzo de 2026 y reunió a representantes de la Fundación de Investigación, de la dirección científica y de la dirección de Investigación y Docencia del hospital, quienes hicieron entrega de los diplomas a los equipos investigadores premiados.
El proyecto en el que participa el Dr. Herreros, titulado “Estudio de las redes extracelulares de neutrófilos (NETs) y su proceso de formación (NETosis) en pacientes con cáncer de endometrio”, fue reconocido dentro de la categoría Premios Fundación de Investigación y recibió una ayuda de 15.000 euros. La iniciativa está impulsada desde el Grupo de Investigación en Biomarcadores en Reproducción, Obstetricia y Ginecología, con Sarai Tomás Pérez y Juan Gilabert Estellés como investigadores premiados.
Este proyecto se centra en el estudio de las redes extracelulares de neutrófilos, conocidas como NETs, y del proceso de NETosis en pacientes con cáncer de endometrio. La investigación pretende contribuir a una mejor comprensión de los mecanismos inflamatorios e inmunológicos asociados a esta enfermedad, así como explorar su posible relación con biomarcadores de interés clínico.
La concesión de este premio supone un reconocimiento al interés científico y traslacional del proyecto, así como al trabajo colaborativo desarrollado entre profesionales clínicos e investigadores. Además, refuerza la importancia de seguir impulsando líneas de investigación orientadas a mejorar el conocimiento del cáncer ginecológico y a identificar nuevas oportunidades para avanzar en su diagnóstico, caracterización y tratamiento.
La participación del Dr. Herreros en este proyecto se enmarca en su línea de investigación centrada en el estudio del microambiente tumoral, la inflamación asociada al cáncer y los mecanismos celulares y moleculares que pueden contribuir a la progresión tumoral. Este reconocimiento representa, por tanto, un nuevo impulso a su compromiso con la investigación oncológica traslacional y con el desarrollo de proyectos colaborativos orientados a mejorar la comprensión del cáncer y su impacto clínico.

Dr. Alejandro Herreros Pomares participates in one of the projects awarded in the 2025 Research Promotion Awards of the Research Foundation of the General Hospital of Valencia, a call aimed at supporting biomedical and clinical research carried out by professionals from the Valencia-General Hospital department.
The awards ceremony took place on March 10, 2026, bringing together representatives of the Research Foundation, the scientific management team and the hospital’s Research and Teaching Department, who presented the diplomas to the awarded research teams.
The project in which Dr. Herreros participates, entitled “Study of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) and their formation process (NETosis) in patients with endometrial cancer”, was recognised within the Research Foundation Awards category and received a grant of 15,000 euros. The initiative is promoted by the Biomarkers in Reproduction, Obstetrics and Gynaecology Research Group, with Sarai Tomás Pérez and Juan Gilabert Estellés as the awarded researchers.
This project focuses on the study of neutrophil extracellular traps, known as NETs, and the process of NETosis in patients with endometrial cancer. The research aims to contribute to a better understanding of the inflammatory and immunological mechanisms associated with this disease, as well as to explore their potential relationship with clinically relevant biomarkers.
The granting of this award represents recognition of the scientific and translational relevance of the project, as well as of the collaborative work carried out between clinical professionals and researchers. It also reinforces the importance of continuing to support research lines aimed at improving our understanding of gynaecological cancer and identifying new opportunities to advance its diagnosis, characterisation and treatment.
Dr. Herreros’ participation in this project is aligned with his research interests in the tumour microenvironment, cancer-associated inflammation and the cellular and molecular mechanisms that may contribute to tumour progression. This recognition therefore represents a new boost to his commitment to translational oncology research and to the development of collaborative projects aimed at improving the understanding of cancer and its clinical impact.

El Dr. Alejandro Herreros Pomares participó en el acto de presentación oficial de la 12.ª edición del circuito RunCáncer Valencia, organizado por la Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer en Valencia, que tuvo lugar en el Hospital Universitari i Politècnic La Fe, centro de referencia en investigación oncológica.
El evento reunió a representantes institucionales, juntas locales de la Asociación, ayuntamientos, entidades colaboradoras y patrocinadores, en una jornada dedicada a presentar la nueva edición de este circuito 100% solidario contra el cáncer, consolidado como el mayor circuito de marchas y carreras solidarias contra el cáncer de Europa.
Durante el acto, el Dr. Herreros participó en la presentación de la nueva camiseta que acompañará a la temporada 2026-2027 de los circuitos, una imagen vinculada al compromiso colectivo de todas las personas que, año tras año, caminan o corren para apoyar la investigación oncológica. Su intervención se desarrolló junto a las palabras de representantes de las distintas juntas locales que acudieron al Hospital La Fe, reforzando el carácter participativo, cercano y social de esta iniciativa.
La nueva edición de RunCáncer se presenta bajo el lema #YoSoyLaCura, un mensaje que pone el foco en la importancia de invertir en investigación y recuerda que cada dorsal, cada inscripción y cada gesto solidario contribuyen a avanzar frente al cáncer. A lo largo de sus once ediciones anteriores, RunCáncer ha superado los 3,3 millones de euros recaudados y ha reunido a más de 700.000 participantes, haciendo posible el impulso de más de 50 proyectos de investigación en cáncer.
RunCáncer 2026 recorrerá más de 100 municipios valencianos durante los próximos meses, combinando deporte, solidaridad, vida saludable y compromiso social. Las inscripciones, con un coste de 5 euros destinados íntegramente a investigación, permitirán que miles de personas vuelvan a sumarse a una iniciativa que une a pacientes, familiares, profesionales, voluntariado, instituciones y ciudadanía en torno a un objetivo común: seguir impulsando la investigación para ofrecer más esperanza frente al cáncer.
La participación del Dr. Herreros en este acto se enmarca en su compromiso con la investigación oncológica y con la divulgación científica, así como en la importancia de acercar la ciencia a la sociedad y visibilizar el papel esencial de las iniciativas solidarias en el avance biomédico.

Dr. Alejandro Herreros Pomares participated in the official presentation of the 12th edition of the RunCáncer Valencia circuit, organised by the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Valencia. The event took place at the Hospital Universitari i Politècnic La Fe, a leading centre in oncology research.
The event brought together institutional representatives, local boards of the Association, city councils, partner organisations and sponsors to present the new edition of this 100% charitable circuit against cancer, which has become the largest solidarity walking and running circuit against cancer in Europe.
During the event, Dr. Herreros took part in the presentation of the new T-shirt that will accompany the 2026-2027 season of the circuits. The new image reflects the collective commitment of all those who, year after year, walk or run to support cancer research. His contribution was presented alongside the words of representatives from the different local boards attending the event at Hospital La Fe, highlighting the participatory, community-based and social nature of this initiative.
The new edition of RunCáncer is presented under the slogan #YoSoyLaCura, a message that emphasises the importance of investing in research and reminds us that every race number, every registration and every act of solidarity contributes to progress against cancer. Over its previous eleven editions, RunCáncer has raised more than 3.3 million euros and brought together over 700,000 participants, helping to support more than 50 cancer research projects.
RunCáncer 2026 will visit more than 100 municipalities across Valencia over the coming months, combining sport, solidarity, healthy lifestyles and social commitment. Registration costs 5 euros, which are fully allocated to research, allowing thousands of people to once again join an initiative that brings together patients, families, professionals, volunteers, institutions and citizens around a shared goal: to continue promoting research and offering more hope against cancer.
Dr. Herreros’ participation in this event reflects his commitment to cancer research and science communication, as well as the importance of bringing science closer to society and highlighting the essential role of charitable initiatives in biomedical progress.
